A cybersecurity bill might finally make it to the President’s desk. This long-delayed bill, which encourages companies to share data breach info with competitors and the government, has been added to the wide-reaching omnibus bill. The bill uses certain incentives to encourage businesses to share their data with the government. For example, when sharing cyber threat data, companies are safe under company liability protections to hopefully increase hack detection and prevention. However, the addition of this bill does not go uncontested. Privacy activists are protesting this bill due to the fear that the government will use the collection of personal information by shuttling it to the National Security Agency (NSA).
