Cybersecurity, government and privacy experts have announced plans to write a “digital constitution” addressing the balance between security and privacy. Deemed the Digital Equilibrium Project, this coalition of experts will attempt to reach a compromise regarding “the underlying issues fueling acrimonious debates like the contentious court order between Apple and the U.S. government,” according to the announcement.
This diverse team of experts includes former officials in the NSA and other national law enforcement programs as well as “some of the nation’s most influential privacy organizations.” While they will certainly have many differentiating views, “these individuals believe new thinking and collaboration is needed to avert potential catastrophes as the digital and physical worlds become more interdependent.” The group’s foundational report titled ‘Balancing Security and Privacy in the Connected World’ will be released March 1 at the RSA Conference – the world’s largest cyber security conference.
