Two North Carolina men were arrested last Thursday for their involvement in hacking senior U.S. government officials and U.S. federal computer systems. Andrew Otto Boggs, under the handle “INCURSIO” and Justin Gray Liverman, deemed “D3F4ULT,” allegedly conspired with cyber-gang “Crackas with Attitude” from October 2015 to February 2016. Boggs and Liverman supposedly used “social engineering hacking techniques, including victim impersonation, to gain unlawful access to the personal online accounts of senior U.S. government officials, their families and several U.S. government computer systems,” according to a Department of Justice press release.
The cyber-gang went so far as to upload private information to public websites, harassed the victims on the phone and vandalized their social media accounts. UK and U.S. authorities are investigating three other suspects that are likely located in the United Kindom.
